Nominations at the 2017 RTS Student Television Awards

Fonic are delighted to congratulate two graduates whose animations have been nominated at the 2017 RTS Student Television Awards.

The first of these is Tough. Witten and directed by Kingston University Graduate Jennifer Zheng. Tough has been nominated for Best Undergraduate Animation. Jennifer’s was also BAFTA Nominated Animated Short Film 2017 and won Best Animated Documentary at KLIK Amsterdam 2016.

Some things can only be understood with maturity. New light is shed on childhood cultural misunderstandings when a Chinese mother and her British born daughter speak as adults for the first time.

The Grey Hound. Written and directed by RCA graduate Josh Philip Saunders has been nominated for Best Postgraduate Animation. The Grey Hound has been successful on the festival circuit including Official selection Anima Brussels 2017 and Official Selection Best International Graduation Film Category Animated Dreams Festival Estonia 2016 (amongst others).

A woman struggles with her grey hound, her partner struggles to understand. A black dog is one thing, but I think most of our hounds are grey.. They merge with us and distort us in ways only the owner sees. I like to use drawing to conjure the unseen. With this film I tried to shine a little light on mental state and illness.

Fonic had the pleasure of mixing the sound for Tough and the doing the sound design and mixing for The Grey Hound. We are very proud to support graduates/new-coming talent with our work here at Fonic and look forward to continuing to do so.

We would like to wish both Jennifer Zheng and Josh Philip Saunders the best of luck at this years RTS Student Television Awards on Friday 16th June 2017 and congratulate them on the ongoing success of their animations.
