More films in the BFI London Film Festival and The Aesthetica Short Film Festival announces its programme

Fonic created the sound design for a beautiful short film Grandad was a Romantic by film maker Maryam Mohajer, and, excitingly, it will be shown at the BFI London Film Festival short films programme JOY TO THE WORLD…, showcasing joyful, triumphant and funny films on Wednesday 2nd October at 8:40pm at the Vue Cinema Leicester Square, Screen 7 and Friday 4th October at 3:30pm in Screen 5.

This is the second film we have worked on to be part of this year’s festival, with Rose Plays Julie, which is part of the Official Competition being our second, which you can find out about here.

Grandad was a Romantic is also part of The Aesthetica Short Film Festival (ASFF) from 6th – 10th November in the Animation 1 Programme. Founded in 2011, this international film festival, which takes place annually in York, celebrates independent films and filmmaking and all films are in competition in their category for an award, alongside the Best of Festival Award, Audience Award and Best Screenplay. Films shown at this festival have gone on to win awards at BAFTA and the Oscars as well as other festivals, including Sundance and SXSW amongst other. ASFF is organised by Aesthetica, one of the leading publications for art, design and photography, highlighting some of the most important artists at work today, both established and emerging, through detailed features and stunning imagery.

In additional to Grandad was a Romantic, there are three other films Fonic worked being shown at ASFF. Also in the Animation section is the 2019 EE British Academy Film Award winning, Roughhouse, a film about three friends as they embark on a new adventure in a strange town, which we recorded and edited the voice over. We created the sound and mixed dance and fashion film, Static | Motion, which is part of the Dance programme, which you can find out about, here, and also, Tough, which is part of the Portrait of Modern Britain programme. A film by Jennifer Zheng, this short film explores a conversation between a British born daughter with her Chinese mother as they talk as adults for the first time, and learn about their shared history.

We are so proud to have been part of the creation and to have supported these films. We are always keen to help new and emerging film makers, so please do get in touch if you feel we would be the right fit.
