A film set in an Orwellian world
that dictates how gruel is made

A Recipe for Gruel

Client | Sharon Smith

An adaptation of a piece of prose of the same name by English writer, Frank Key, and directed and animated by Sharon Smith, A Recipe for Gruel describes a bleak, Orwellian future. In this world those in power dictate how to properly prepare gruel and portrays the everyday life of a world on the edge of dystopia. Set on a cold, grey and wintery day, that adds to the oppressive nature of the story, we join our protagonist on her mission to make gruel. A unique short, that has the prose recited by an omniscient narrator (voiced by Key himself) who orders the protagonist what to do whilst also directing the films theatrical elements, meaning we never get a chance to know the inner thoughts of our protagonist.

Fonic worked on the full audio post production.
