Docudrama
A creative & innovative
piece of storytelling on the
life of Ambrose O'Higgins

Further Beyond

Client | Desperate Optimists

Further Beyond, made under the Arts Council Ireland Reel Art scheme, is a 2016 film by Desperate Optimists (Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor) that has been described as ‘part essay, documentary and quirky drama’ (The Guardian) and a ‘masterpiece of intricate if indirect construction’. (BFI Sight and Sound)

Loosely based on the compelling story of 18th Century figure, Ambrose O’Higgins, and attempt to retrace his remarkable journey from Ireland to Chile. Future Beyond speculates on the idea of place, while continually getting sidetracked by a competing story of immigration, displacement and identity.

O’Higgins, was an Irish-Spanish colonial administrator who served the Spanish Empire as captain general of Chile from 1788 to 1796 and as viceroy of Peru from 1796 to 1801.

Fonic covered the full post production sound.
