Benriach Distillery – Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky – Shades of Smoke
Here Design, a cross-disciplinary independent branding agency known for its work with global and luxury brands, has collaborated with Benriach Distillery to create a unique artistic partnership with Italian-Dominican artist Stefano Contiero. The project translates the complex flavours of a 31-year-old Speyside single malt whisky into a living, breathing digital artwork.
This release marks the first expression in Benriach’s Shades of Smoke series. The single malt was originally laid down in the spring and summer of 1994—the same year the distillery increased production of its signature sweeter style of smoky whisky. The resulting artwork reflects and celebrates the elegant, refined side of Benriach’s distinctive smoky flavour profile.
Commissioned specifically for this limited-edition whisky release, Contiero’s original digital artwork was inspired directly by the tasting process. It visually interprets the whisky through soft, airy, cloud-like colours that evolve and drift like smoke. The moving artwork was captured at various moments in time, creating multiple visual variations used across the packaging.
Fonic provided full audio post-production, including voice, sound design & music balancing, and final mix, for the accompanying advertising campaign, enhancing the immersive experience of the digital artwork.
