All My Friends Hate Me

Client | Ravanburn

Fonic provided full post audio on UK production All My Friends Hate Me, a 2021 British comedy horror film directed by Andrew Gaynord and written by Tom Palmer and Tom Stourton and produced by Ravanburn Films. Fonic work with Tim Bamber on the audio and the majority of the work happened during one of England’s lockdowns.

Peter (Tom Stourton), a genuine but increasingly insecure 30 year old man has returned from volunteering in a refugee camp and is cautiously excited about reuniting with his university friends for his birthday with a weekend of memories, partying and earnest reconnection at a picturesque English country manor, owned by his friend George. Pete’s girlfriend Sonia is planning to arrive the following day but the first evening is spent reconnecting with his college friends: George and his wife Fig, ‘foppish cokehound’ Archie, and Pete’s ex-girlfriend Claire. However, as the night goes on, Pete’s friends’ behaviour becomes more and more unsettling and Pete becomes more paranoid and insecure, as he suspects Harry, a new comer, is plotting to replace him in the group.

The film received its World Premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival and was picked up for distrubtion in North America via Super Ltd and released 11 March 2022 with a digital release on March 25 2022 . Its UK premiere took place on 9th October at the BFI’s London International Film Festival and BFI Distribution acquired it for UK and Ireland and released on 10th June 2022.

The film has received some great reviews, highlights include:

Loud and Clear’s positive review acknowledged the sound design: “But All My Friends Hate Me is also its own thing, and it demonstrates it with a script that has enough irony to be hysterically fun, enough tension to keep us on our toes, enough emotion to be unexpectedly therapeutic, and memorable performances from all its wonderfully disquieting cast members. Not only that, but the film is also impressive on a technical level, with highly effective music (Joe Robbins and Will Lowes) and sound design (Barnaby Templer, of Unmade Beds), stunning cinematography (Ben Moulden, of The Drifters) and impeccable editing (Saam Hodivala) – even more so keeping in mind that the entire film was edited during the 2020 lockdown.”

Film Threat gave the film 9/10 review and wonderful praise: “Here’s one word to describe Gaynord’s gem: wow.”

Variety’s positive review explained the film as: “A funny, horrible, ordeal-by-comedy that may prove uncomfortably recognizable to anyone who has ever wondered why on earth every single other person in the room is behaving like such a knob.”

Other significant press includes a listing in Rolling Stone for the Tribeca screening.
