Rocha’s Hong Kong Dress

Client | NOWNESS

Part of digital video channel, NOWNESS, series ‘The Way We Dress’, ‘Rocha’s Hong Kong Dress’, is a short film directed by Linda Brownlee that follows designer, Simone Rocha, as she reflects on the innate style of her grandmother and aunt’s generation of pastel hues and button-up chic of Hong Kong. The washed-out pastels and poised looks can be seen on a whole generation of women in the city and has left an imprint on Rocha’s own aesthetic.

“My family is full of very, very, strong women and very opinionated women,” says Rocha, “They didn’t have much money, but they would always make themselves up so well to make the family proud. When I think of Hong Kong I think of them – and the electric energy.
