Director and animator Will Rose has produced the first-ever animated Mindfulness Moment for BBC’s Springwatch, as part of the programme’s 20th anniversary celebrations. The short animation features insects and birds illustrated in Rose’s distinctive style and was inspired by his visit to the National Trust’s Longshaw Estate, where Springwatch was on location this series.

Audio for the piece was recorded on location at Longshaw before being mixed at Fonic, with additional layers added for depth and texture. Rose explains, “Marrying the sounds I captured on location with bird calls from the BBC’s and Fonic’s bespoke libraries ensured the finished soundtrack had depth, texture, and atmosphere.”

The soundscape captures natural sounds such as birdsong, wingbeats, wind through foliage, and the movement of insects. His work shows how a finely balanced soundtrack can shape not only the mood of an animation but also the viewer’s overall sensory experience.
