Freelance animator Campbell Hartley created a joyful short in celebration of Pride called “Kid Cupid”. Design and art direction was by Charlie Lane Bush. When an animation starts with a baby cupid emerging through the clouds astride a flying pink dolphin you know you are in for a treat.
Designed as a reel for his Instagram account, campbell_hartley, the very short short is a perfect example of encapsulating a story into the tight confines required of social media. The use of a bright pastel palette informed by the colours associated with trans and the wider LGBTQ community helps to reinforce his message.
Fonic Post Production helped Campbell create the perfect soundtrack. Working with the studio Campbell noted ”I had a vague idea in my head of how I wanted it to sound and they managed to distill that down and understand what I was trying to explain better than I could ever imagined”. His statement emphasizes how Fonics years of experience can help tease out what they know directors have in them. The resulting zingy glittery palette of sounds perfectly matches the joyful and playful nature of the short.
