Fonic Post Production Sound is delighted to announce that Cécile Janet has joined their Hackney based studio. Highly regarded within the industry, Cécile brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Fonic. She has worked across many shows and genres during her career, from documentaries to commercials and animation projects, including the acclaimed short film The Day I Became A Bird for Passion Pictures and the two series of Deadend: Paranormal Park for Blink Industries and Netflix. Cécile has joined Fonic from Fitzrovia Post where she was audio lead for all creative content and technical development.
Asked what brought her to Fonic she was quick to respond: “Fonic have always had an outstanding reputation for creative sound. The team is renowned for the level of passion they pour into the work and I hugely admire their ethos. They care deeply about each project and work hard to support their clients to achieve their goals. There’s a reason people keep coming back and clients have trusted Fonic for two decades! I’m thrilled to be collaborating with my talented new teammates whose work I have admired for so long. And of course, working in the picturesque setting of Hackney City Farm, where sustainability is at the heart of everything, is an absolute dream!”
Cécile has always had a deep passion for sound. At the age of 14, she was determined that this would be her career path. After gaining some work experience in live sound and studying sound at college, she decided to cross the channel to study on the renowned Music and Sound Recording course at the University of Surrey, gaining a BMus honours and becoming a Tonmeister.
The technical side of the industry is something Fonic has always strived on being ahead of the curve. Cécile is looking forward to working in Fonic’s Dolby Atmos studios, as she notes “I’m very excited by the huge boom in audio content commissioned in Dolby Atmos, especially the recent partnership between Dolby and Audible“.
Barnaby Templer, CEO of Fonic, could not be more delighted to have Cécile join Fonic, explaining: “Cecile’s work is so well crafted. Not just technically brilliant but with a deep understanding and nuanced approach to storytelling. Just as important Cecile is a lovely person. It’s such a joy and privilege that she is part of the team.”
Any discussion with a sound designer cannot end without asking about their favourite sounds and Cécile answers are wonderful: “There are a lot of daily life sounds that I’m obsessed with, but my favourite is the slapping sound of flip-flops. In the foley booth I love a rubber squeak and a squelchy fart. Who doesn’t? And if we’re talking about classic designed sounds in popular culture, the haunting chime of the grandfather clock in Stranger Things gives me goosebumps every time I hear it!”

They have provided quality audio for many broadcasters including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Netflix, Amazon, as well as Features screening at Picturehouse Curzon and Vue Cinemas nationwide.
