Rose Plays Julie
A thriller that explores women and violence.
Short film ‘Beware of Trains’, written and directed by Emma Calder, produced by Pearly Oyster Productions, Dhiraj Mahey & Harriet Titlowand and funded by BFI. The film explores the voyeuristic culture of fear and uncertainty and tells a story of a woman with extreme anxiety which is devoured by four major preoccupations: a man she met by chance on a train, her dying father, her daughter’s safety, and the murder she dreams she has committed. Fonic recorded the voice artists and provided the final mixes.
The film premiered in short film competition at Zagreb in June 2022, followed by French premiere in short film competition at Annecy Festival June 2022. The film received its UK premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in August 2022.
Calder studied Graphic Design at the Royal College of Art. Whilst at the RCA she began making animated films, including the cult 80’s classic Madame Potatoe. After college she set up a studio producing graphic design, illustration for magazines and work for pop videos and commercials. She co-founded Pearly Oyster Productions making many successful and award winning animated films and commercials, including The Queen’s Monastery (BBC). Emma is currently developing and writing a Random Person 52 part art animation series and has written several adult/children’s illustrated books.
