Grandad was a Romantic
Fonic created the sound design for the short film Grandad was a Romantic by filmmaker Maryam Mohajer.
This beautiful film tells the story of the narrator’s Grandad, who is a passionate romantic. She explains how he came across a picture of her Granny and decided that she must be the love of his life. However, despite their marriage and family, his boundless romance never dies and leads him to make some reckless decisions.
The film has been a huge critical success, winning many awards. One to highlight is the 2020 EE British Academy Film Award for British Short Animation, in which we were also very grateful to Maryam for thanking us in her eloquent acceptance speech. The short film has received national news coverage from The Guardian, both as a review following the BAFTA nomination and following its win.
