transitioning into adulthood

Dear Habib

Client | Feed Me Light

Short film, Dear Habib, is the culmination of a three-year Economic and Social Research Council funded project, ‘Becoming Adult: conceptions of futures and wellbeing among migrant young people in the UK’ with the aim to raise awareness on the issues and obstacles faced by refugees even after they have set down roots.

Focusing on the real story of Habib, an unaccompanied minor in the United Kingdom and his experiences as a young man transitioning into adulthood, dealing with the loss of home and family, further complicated by the threat of deportation.

The film is directed by Majid Adin (Elton John’s Rocketman) animated by Team Tumult and produced by Ryan Goodwin-Smith at Feed Me Light. Habib worked with academics Dr Elaine Chase (UCL) and Dr Nando Sigona (University of Birmingham) throughout the project, sharing his own story and collecting the stories of other migrant youth.

Adin also bought his own perspective to the film, himself a refugee and asylum seeker, travelling across Europe in 2015 and spending six months in ’The Jungle’ camp in Calais.

Fonic worked on the full audio post production.
