Awards and recognition roundup

Wow! Lots of awards and recognitions from the last few months to fill you in on that Fonic has been part of.

Starting with the Clio Awards, an annual award program that recognises innovation and creative excellence in advertising, design, and communication judged by an international panel of advertising professionals. Nexus Studio, Johnny Kelly and Chipotle’s ‘A Future Begins’ was awarded with a Gold for Animation and Bronze for Branded Entertainment & Content.

‘A Future Begins’ was also shortlisted for the D&AD Awards in the Entertainment Scripted Short Form category in May. These prestigious awards were set up in 1962 by a group of designers and art directors to celebrate creative communication and raise standards within their industry. The awards have grown to be recognised globally as the ultimate creative accolade in design and advertising, entered and attended by the best from around the world.

Annecy International Animation Festival, a festival held every June where talent, commissioners, artists, students gather to celebrate the medium. Fonic had a few projects in the Official Programs. Firstly, A Future Begins’, was screened within the Official Program, for ‘Commissioned Films’. Animator and filmmaker, Elizabeth Hobbs’s film ‘The Debutante’ and animator and illustrator Emma Calder’s film ‘Beware of Trains’ were both selected for the Official Selection Short Films category. Nexus Studio and Epic Games ran a number of activities, including a panel discussion where Nexus Co-Founder Chris O’Reilly, shared insight into how real-time technology is paving the way for a revolution in animated entertainment. This followed the development of a teaser with Oscar-winning director Patrick Osborne for a series called ‘This Tape Deck is a Time Machine‘ which used Epic Games’ Unreal Engine that Fonic provided post production sound and music tracks for.

Cannes Lions is an International Festival for Creativity which began in 1954. The festival champions creative excellence providing a global destination and the definitive benchmark for creativity within the industry. ‘A Future Begins’ was awarded two Silver and three Bronze awards: Silver for Film and Film craft and Bronze for Film Craft, Film and Digital Craft. In addition, Nexus Studio and Conor Finnegan’s Oatly project Norm’s ‘Old Pal Milk’ won a Silver award for Film. The oat drink company launched it’s biggest UK campaign in January with a mini-series of five episodes featuring two oat drink carton puppets trying to shift to plant-based eating. 

Continuing their winning streak on the awards circuit, ‘A Future Begins’ was shortlisted by Gerety Awards 2022 for Craft Cut, Entertainment Cut and Work for Good awards. The Gerety Awards is a female-lead advertising award and mark the first time that juries, made up of agency &  brand leaders and creative experts, have been brought together to select the best in advertising – not just advertising made for women – through the female lens.
